Palacio de Liria
Palacio de Liria, which is actually the habitual residence of the Dukes of Alba and headquarters of the Casa de Alba Foundation, has opened its doors to the public on September 19, 2019, becoming a must-see in Madrid for art lovers and for people interested in history. The access allows the visit of fourteen of its main rooms.
Palacio de Liria, also known as “the younger brother of the Royal Palace”, is considered one of the most important urban palaces in Madrid. It was built between 1767 and 1785, by order of the III Duke of Berwick and Liria: Don Jacobo Fitz-James Stuart and Colón. This monumental building of neoclassical style is mainly due to the renowned architect Ventura Rodríguez and was almost completely restored after the Spanish Civil War. It is a historical-artistic oasis located in the center of Madrid. At the inside we may find masterpieces by Goya, Velázquez, Murillo and Rubens among others; as well as prints, books and documentation of important historical events.
As a result of our collaboration with the company Palacios y Museos and its designers team, Barceloning has produced a series of products inspired by upholstery, decorative fabrics and works of art from the Palace.
